Yesterday was a beautiful, hot summer day. Normally, the media would suffer from a summer slow-down, trying to pick anything to fill the time. Not this year though. In spite of the deluge of the negative corona virus related news, one other sad message toppled them all – at least for me. And probably for many more music lovers as well.

‘Ennio Morricone is no more.’

Maestro Ennio Morricone has profoundly impacted my relationship and perception of music. It was his music score for the movie Once Upon A Time In The West when I first realized how powerful a great music could be.

The sad news about the Maestro’s passing has made me pull out the DVD with this movie with a  plan to watch it in the evening. It didn’t work. The film, the visuals were just too distracting.

So I put on the CD Yo-Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone, closed my eyes and listened. This was a perfect recording to pay tribute to one of the greatest music composers of my life.

Rest In Peace Maestro!

Opening ‘Scissors’ of the Music World

I mean ‘scissors’ between music ‘makes and make-nots’ (like wealthy haves and have-nots). Because that’s what is happening and it doesn’t help almost anyone, except for the tiniest group of 0.01% on the top of the music industry.  Is this political? Sure it is! At least […]

Don’t Let Music Become Disposable!

The moment after Americans finished their Thanksgiving dinner and stormed stores for the Black Friday shopping spree, the atmosphere has changed for the next big seasonal holidays – Christmas. As it is every year, with changes in shop-windows, came also a new seasonal music repertoire for […]
