Yesterday was a beautiful, hot summer day. Normally, the media would suffer from a summer slow-down, trying to pick anything to fill the time. Not this year though. In spite of the deluge of the negative corona virus related news, one other sad message toppled them all – at least for me. And probably for many more music lovers as well.
‘Ennio Morricone is no more.’
Maestro Ennio Morricone has profoundly impacted my relationship and perception of music. It was his music score for the movie Once Upon A Time In The West when I first realized how powerful a great music could be.
The sad news about the Maestro’s passing has made me pull out the DVD with this movie with a plan to watch it in the evening. It didn’t work. The film, the visuals were just too distracting.
So I put on the CD Yo-Yo Ma Plays Ennio Morricone, closed my eyes and listened. This was a perfect recording to pay tribute to one of the greatest music composers of my life.
Rest In Peace Maestro!
